The College’s Board of Trustees met for the final time this year on Tuesday, Dec. 2, via a Zoom Webinar that lasted 15 minutes. The board heard reports from three of its committees, passed motions and discussed the U.S. Department of Education’s recent move to exclude nursing from its definition of a professional degree.

Trustees representing the board’s Executive Committee, Business and Infrastructure Committee and Risk Management and Compliance Committee delivered the reports.

Following reports, the board voted in favor of resolutions that:

  • Approve the appointment, change in status and reappoint of numerous College employees.

  • Approve emeritus status for two retirees.

  • Approve selected vendors to do work for the College’s business purposes without a publicly advertised bidding process.

  • Approve the audited Fiscal Year 2025 financial statements.

Just before the meeting was adjourned, trustee Eleanor Horne asked her fellow board members, “About the situation with nursing degrees, what are the implications for our students?”

The College's President Michael Bernstein said that neither the College’s office of Academic Affairs nor the dean's office for the School of Nursing and Health Sciences has determined any related implications for the Department of Nursing. The College is watching closely for changes, he added.

The meeting concluded with board Chair Carl Gibbs wishing students good luck on their upcoming final exams, as well as a happy and healthy holiday season to students, faculty and staff.

The board’s next public meeting will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 24, the time and location still to be determined.
