From celebrities to students on campus, the “athleisure” trend is the new movement. No matter where I go, I always see people fashionably strutting around in their sweatpants. Whether it’s joggers, boot cut or the elastic ankle style, sweatpants are a staple in any wardrobe.
You may think sweatpants are for hanging around the house during the day, but now people are wearing them everywhere. Models are walking down the runway in sweatpants and heels, inspiring others to do the same. At least once a day, I’ll see a new celebrity showing off this style on social media. Personally, I don’t think you’d catch me in joggers and stilettos, but never say never when it comes to fashion.
The next comfortable trend would have to be leggings. Every season there are many new styles coming out—short, cropped or full length. In each category, there are countless different types to choose from. From different patterns to cutouts, the possibilities are endless. The great thing about leggings is that every clothing store carries them. You can find trendy leggings at Target, Lululemon and even in the Barnes & Noble at Campus Town.
Curious about what to pair with your leggings? My favorite is an oversized crew neck sweatshirt. Pair this outfit with sneakers and you have a comfortable outfit for the day. Now that the weather has finally gotten colder, I’m sure we’ll be seeing more of these outfits around campus as people try to keep warm and comfortable. Enjoy wearing sweatpants to class while you can, because not many jobs will allow you dress this casually!

Every time I walk into the Barnes & Noble in Campus Town, I spot another article of clothing that surprises me. As a senior, I’ve seen the clothing section in the bookstore evolve over time. Every year, there are new styles of sweatshirts, T-shirts, hats, outerwear and performance clothing items.
Freshman year, things were simple. I purchased a few different styles of sweatshirts varying from hooded sweatshirts, quarter zips and full zip ups. However, I’ve started to notice the bookstore’s attempt to keep up with the world’s fashion trends.
The trends that are in storefronts at the mall are the same ones hanging on the racks in the Barnes & Noble in Campus Town. For example, joggers have now exploded for both men and women. You can go to the mall and purchase the Adidas brand, or go to the bookstore and purchase the Champion brand with the the College’s logo on it.
One style that I was particularly excited to see was the College’s woolly pullover crewnecks. I first saw this style in the Victoria’s Secret store with the PINK logo written across the chest. This sweatshirt style is perfect for a relaxing day. Pair it with comfortable leggings and sneakers and you’re good to go. At the bookstore, the pullover comes in blue, white or striped. There is also a quarter zip option.
The most comfortable, yet stylish, item I’ve purchased so far is undoubtedly the light grey crewneck. I see many students wearing it around campus, so I assume it is a customer favorite.
For those of you who don’t have the Barnes & Noble College app, I suggest you download it. The app allows you to connect to the College and will provide discounts on your purchases at the store. The app will also send you push alerts letting you know there’s a sale on certain items. It’s a must.
In addition to downloading the app, I definitely recommend making a trip to the bookstore to check out all the new and trendy items they have on display this semester.

It’s hard to believe Halloween is right around the corner, especially when this weather makes me believe we’re still stuck in September. In just one day, we can experience three different seasons. In the morning, I walk to class bundled up in my winter jacket. Around lunch time, it begins to feel like spring weather with temperatures reaching the mid ’70s. Before you know it, it’s dinner time and it finally feels like fall.
Not only am I confused, but so is my wardrobe. The leaves are falling off the trees, regardless of the spring-like temperatures. As I’ve packed away most of my summer clothes, I’m wondering if that was the right thing to do.
This weather frustrates me, as I’m sure it does for many others. Walking to class freezing in the morning and coming out only to start sweating is not ideal for anyone. My fashion advice to you is to layer up — it’s the only way to be comfortable in this weather. You can’t go wrong with a short sleeve T-shirt or tank top and a zip-up.
These past few days, I’ve seen students across campus in a variety of outfits ranging from boots, all the way to sandals. Before you know it, we’ll all be in our fall clothes — some of us wishing for warmer weather back and some of us loving every second of it.
Although I adore my fall and winter boots, I can do without the cold weather. This fall, we’ll be seeing some new and old trends in the fashion world. Always remember that fashion comes full circle, so if you’re wondering about your clothes from last fall, I can guarantee you they will be “in.”
There’s no need to go shopping and break your bank for new fall clothes. We’ll be seeing lots of fringe, faux-fur, oversized flannels and, of course, the classic over-the-knee boots. Once the weather starts to get chillier, what will you be wearing?

As young professionals preparing to enter the real world, the laid-back outfits we wear to class most likely won’t cut it in the workplace. So get ready to replace sweatshirts and sweatpants with suits, ties, pencil skirts and heels.
Although the College may provide basic learning foundations and critical thinking tools used in the workplace, the fashion resources on campus are limited. Luckily, you have me for some guidance!
For students who worked at an internship before, you already know the deal. You probably went shopping and bought a few pairs of neutral-colored pants, shirts and cardigans to create multiple outfits.
However, if you’re anything like me, you may have soon realized that those few pieces you bought just weren’t enough. About half of my closet is filled with work clothes, but I continue to struggle piecing together outfits that aren’t too similar to what I wore the day before.
Be careful not to get too comfortable with your work clothes though. Girls should avoid wearing black dress pants with a different colored collared shirt every day. Switching it up with pencil skirts and patterned shirts provides more options to choose from. You can also alternate the look between flats and heels.
Contrary to popular belief, men also have a lot more choices than one may think. Black and blue suits are a must-have. Men can alternate between solid, striped and patterned dress shirts.
This same logic can be applied to ties. To increase fashion variety, add different patterned socks, watches and accessories to your wardrobe.
But don’t forget that you can’t go wrong with a classic black suit, white shirt and black tie paired with black dress shoes.
Although it is fun to incorporate colors into your work wardrobe, this chic and professional look will never go out of style.

As the seasons come and go, denim is one thing that appears to stay constant in the fashion world. Whether you’re rocking skinny or boyfriend-style jeans, ripped denim has become a popular trend.
Although the older generations — like my parents and grandparents — don’t agree with this fashion statement, millennials love it. There are a variety of styles such as basic ripped jeans in the knee, or riskier, uber-ripped jeans where there is more skin showing than the jeans itself.
Another option you can choose is the classic ripped jeans down the pant leg with white stitching covering the holes. I like the classic rips best and don’t believe I will ever get into the uber-ripped style, but I applaud those who can pull it off!
Denim is one thing that appears to stay constant in the fashion world (envato elements).
As this trend becomes more and more popular, people can find inspiration just about anywhere they look. Pinterest is one of the best places to search for wardrobe ideas because they provide endless options. Also, looking at your favorite celebrities’ Instagram pages can give tons of fashion inspiration.
Glamour Magazine recently published an article featuring celebrities wearing a variety of stylish ripped jeans. Of course Bella and Gigi Hadid, the fashion icons of the century (or so it seems), were the first two featured.
You can wear ripped jeans just about anywhere if you really want to, unless there’s a specific dress code. Pair ripped jeans with a cute pair of sneakers or heels to bring them from day to night. Whether you’re going to class or having a night out on the town, trendy ripped jeans have become a wardrobe necessity.

Steve Madden’s Softey-style, slip-on shoe has become a popular trend today. If you don’t know what the Softey-style is, let me enlighten you: it’s a slip-on shoe with a thick fur strap that runs across the top of your foot.
Although I was first introduced to this style by Steve Madden while shopping in the Macy’s shoe department, just about every brand makes some variation of them. At first there were three main colors that Steve Madden offered — black, pink and grey.
Initially, I bought the black pair because I thought they wouldn’t get dirty and were the most neutral color the designer brand offered. But I soon went back and purchased the pink pair, too. The pink shoes are my favorite of the two, but because they are a lighter color, I have to make sure they stay clean.
Due to the several brands that manufacture these slip-on shoes, the prices vary from affordable to a little over the top.
These shoes are a personal favorite of mine because they match perfectly with my style. I find them to be comfortable, fashionable and versatile for any outfit. You can wear them with jeans, shorts, leggings, yoga pants or just about anything you want.
The best part is that when cooler weather comes you can wear them as comfy slippers around the house. Because I love them so much, I don’t tend to categorize them completely as slippers, but I do know several people who look down upon those who wear them in public.
That’s where one of my favorite fashion tips comes into play: If you like what you’re wearing, who cares what anyone else thinks? The only person who has to like your outfit, shoes or accessories is you. As classes have started, I’m thrilled to see many of these Softey-style shoes trending around campus.

Although you may still be in summer mode, fall is right around the corner. Temperatures have dropped into the high 60s and low 70s the past few days, forcing retail stores to clear out their summer merchandise and replace it with sweaters, boots and long sleeve shirts.
Soon the school work will become overwhelming and students across campus will become busier and busier. Before you know it, you’ll be dressed in fall clothes and wishing warmer weather was back.
Last fall there were some popular items that I’m sure students on campus will be wearing again this year. For example, bomber jackets were everywhere last year and will continue to be in style this fall. These jackets come in a variety of styles from light to heavy and are wearable for any season.
According to the fashion experts of the world (and what we saw during the most recent fashion week), the color to wear this fall is red. Personally, I’m excited because red is one of my favorite colors to wear and is practical for any occasion. Slip on a sleek red dress for a fancy event or dress it down with boots and a scarf for class.
Another item that’s still in this fall is over-the-knee boots. I’ve become so used to wearing these that any other style feels wrong. In just about every store, there are several styles being showcased. According to Elle Magazine, we can expect a lot of new trends this fall such as ’70s plaid, more fur, glittery boots and retro hats. I’m excited to see what fall fashion will be displayed on campus this semester!

With summer coming to an end, it’s hard to believe students will soon be rushing around campus in fabulous new outfits. Reflecting on this season’s trends, it’s safe to say this summer’s fashion was one for the books.
We’ve seen some of these trends before, as fashion comes full circle. For instance, this summer we saw an explosion of retro-styled bathing suits. The high-cut bikinis and one pieces were everywhere––just about every online retail site had some available to purchase. But, the retro swimsuit style wasn’t the only one to hit the beaches. From the plethora of cut-out one-pieces to off-the-shoulder bikinis, it seemed like no one cared about silly tan lines this year. As long as they got to show off their stylish bathing suits, they were content.
As for denim, yes the mom jeans (and shorts) are still in. At this point, low-rise anything just feels wrong. Pair your mom jeans with an off-the-shoulder top and birkenstock sandals and you’ve got the perfect first day of school outfit. But don’t forget your accessories! Chokers go perfectly with an off-the-shoulder top and can be found in almost any store.
Although I’m excited to enter the fall fashion season, we still have a little more time before the weather turns and leaves begin to pile up. So don’t forget to bring your favorite summer fashion items back to school and keep these trends alive as long as we can.

As the school year comes to an end, summer vibes are almost in full effect. It’s hard to believe there’s only one more week of classes. Students across campus will soon be cramming for finals, submitting last minute assignments or, for seniors, preparing for the real world. One thing is on all of our minds: summer. More specifically, we are all wondering what fashion trends will be most prevalent over the summer. At least once a day, I’m reminded of the upcoming warm summer months as I scroll through my Instagram feed and see fashion bloggers posting stylish trends. Here are some summer trend predictions:
One-piece swimsuits:
This is an easy one. Last summer, we saw a wave of new styles and we’ll definitely be seeing more. From funky patterns to sleek styles — these options seem limitless. The desire for these swimsuits may be in higher demand than the popular two-piece suits we see season after season.
Bell bottoms:
From jeans to sweatpants, the bell bottom pant style has been making its way back into the fashion world. We’re now seeing them in more colorful and patterned styles. These are a great alternative to yoga pants, as they’ll add just a little more spunk into your style.
Rompers:
Whether worn casually or formally, rompers are becoming a staple item everyone should invest in.
Sun hats:
Of course we will be seeing the classic and cute straw sun hats this summer. However, big floppy beach hats are, in my opinion, the next hot thing. Not only are floppy hats adorable in their simplest style, but some have sayings like “Hello Sunshine” and “Do Not Disturb” sewn into them. They are the perfect beach accessory.

In the fashion world, there is often a debate over when it is acceptable to wear white. Around this time of year, everyone starts talking about it. In fear of breaking fashion rules, a friend recently asked if she should wear white jeans. My answer to her question was simple: Wear whatever you want, whenever you want.
These so-called “fashion rules” are becoming outdated. The rules that say to never wear white after Labor Day or before Memorial Day began in the 1930’s. I say it is time to break the rules.
Fashion is a way to express yourself. In my opinion, your style is individual to who you are and it shouldn’t be limited by any rules.
For example, in the recent movie “Me Before you,” Louisa Clark, played by actress Emilia Clarke, has an interesting sense of style. While most people may criticize her wardrobe, she walks proudly in her brightly colored leggings, funky patterns and puffy skirts.
Hopefully Clarke has inspired others to embrace their own distinct sense of style.
Another actress whose style I admire is Mindy Kaling from “The Mindy Project.” In the show, her wardrobe consists of bright and fun colors. She is limitless in her style and never afraid to show off something new and trendy.
So, my advice to you is to be more like Clarke and Kaling. Be bold, and wear those white jeans, regardless of the time of year.

We’ve all become accustomed to mother nature’s indecisive behavior. However, it seems as though spring finally sprang last week and is here to stay — cross your fingers. I’ve noticed shorts, sandals, sundresses and tank tops all around campus.
I am eagerly awaiting the weekend I will get to go home and swap my winter clothes for my spring clothes. I’ve been especially envious of students who remembered to bring their stylish sandals to school before last week’s wave of warm weather. As we all prepare for spring, here are some popular trends to keep an eye out for.
Mix and match
Prepare to not only see mix and matching bathing suits at the beach, but you should also expect to see more colors being mixed together.
Skorts
I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again — everything in fashion comes full circle. Skorts are back in action. When I was younger, there was a negative attitude surrounding skorts, but now they’re all the rave. They have even become a popular going out item.
Sunglasses are an essential spring accessory (envato elements).
Quay sunglasses
Sunglasses are an essential spring accessory, and the Australian brand, Quay Sunglasses, are taking over. Quay is known for its fashionable lens styles, including untraditional colors and sizes. I’m seeing more and more of their bold styles across campus and I anticipate ordering a pair myself very soon.
Choker neck shirts
As chokers have gained popularity, shirts have begun to come with matching chokers — either physically attached to the shirt or separate. Regardless, they will definitely add a chic element to any outfit.

With summer approaching faster than us busy students realize, it may be time to add a new swimsuit to your collection. I see swimsuits advertised all over social media, and they always catch my eye. When I click on the brand’s websites, however, I see prices as high as $90 for bikini bottoms — not even a top and bottom set. Since one-piece swimsuits have made a huge comeback, I’ve seen a simple black one-piece priced at $75. Initially, I was shocked by these prices. While I’ve become used to these high prices, I still won’t budge — no matter how cute the suit.
One store I’ve always admired for its swim section is Target. Target suits are very fashionable and affordable, ranging from about $15 to $50. In its most recent swim campaign, Target featured unphotoshopped and unedited models to portray “real women” in today’s media. Society is used to seeing women who are a size 0-2 in fashion advertisements, but since Target — and many other brands — have begun to incorporate models of all different shapes and sizes, these brands have become more appealing to a wider audience.
If you’re searching for a cute and affordable suit for summer 2017, check out Target. You won’t be disappointed.

While most of us are longing for warmer weather, we must not forget about our favorite winter fashion items just because Mother Nature decided to be particularly inconsistent lately.
During my trip to Florida, where the temperature dropped to a low of 34 degrees, I was reminded of my warm winter clothing left behind in New Jersey. I scrambled to piece together the warmest possible outfit I could with my suitcase filled of shorts, flip flops and bathing suits. I was unsuccessful and, unfortunately, I had to take a trip to the local mall.
However, not everyone who traveled for spring break was affected by the cold weather. I was very envious as I scrolled through my Instagram and Snapchat feed to see many of my fellow classmates in bathing suits on the beach.
I regretted not having packed my winter coat to warm myself from the unexpected cold weather. I particularly missed my neutral black peacoat. Peacoats have exploded in fashion as it seems everyone — males and females — own at least one.
Peacoats are very versatile. You can wear it over a business casual outfit as you go on an interview or you can pair it with leggings and sneakers while running errands. Either way, you'll look great.
While black and beige are the most popular shades, I see more and more people pulling off gray and burgundy peacoats. You can find a variety of styles of this jacket at different price points in stores including Lord & Taylor and H&M.
My advice to all fashionistas planning their next vacation — regardless of if it's to the sunny state of Florida or a Caribbean island — is to make sure to bring at least one warm outfit as we all know how unreliable Mother Nature can be.

Stars strutted the red carpet on Feb. 26 at the annual Academy Awards. If you missed it, no need to panic— I will catch you up on the fashion you missed. On the red carpet, celebrities showed off their fashion choices, posed for photos and talked to reporters. The first question every reporter asks: “Who are you wearing?”
Ever star will quickly spit out an elite designer’s name — Louis Vuitton, Gucci, Burberry or Tom Ford. These luxury designers custom-create each outfit for the big event.
Typically the red carpet is a place to show off. The ladies wear extravagant dresses and hand-cr
afted jewelry. Some of my favorite looks this year were worn by Emma Stone and Halle Berry.
Stone wore a Givenchy Haute Couture dress made of a mix of gold and cream-colored beads, which perfectly matched her red hair.
Berry blew everyone away in a shimmery Atelier Versace gown that encompassed black, gold and silver.
For the men, it can be a lot harder to differentiate a tux. Many familiar faces showed up in the classic tux including Ryan Gosling, Matt Damon and Justin Timberlake.
However, we saw some color variety with Dev Patel’s white jacket, David Oyelowo’s white and black jacket and Riz Ahmed’s blue tux. While it can be hard to pull off, color is a great way for men to make their outfits pop.
Year after year, fashion at the Oscars is hyped up, and the designers better not disappoint. The public has been busy talking about celebrity’s red carpet outfits all week and will continue to do so until the next big event.

Every season, a number of new trends emerge. Some trends die out quickly, but others stick around and transform into must-have items. Recently, I have noticed a number of fashion items that have transformed into closet necessities. I recommend the following items because it seems these trends are here to stay.
The choker: Honestly, when these first came back around, I didn’t like them. I could never see myself actually wearing one. However, as I have watched them evolve over a short amount of time from a simple black choker to a variety of fabrics and styles, I knew I needed to get my hands on one as soon as possible.
Bomber jackets: These jackets are great because you can wear them with almost any outfit. I’m seeing more and more around campus on both men and women.
Velvet: Velvet shirts, shoes, skirts or dresses — there has been an explosion of velvet everywhere this season.
Adidas sneakers: On a sportier note, Adidas is taking over. The Tubular Viral Casual Sneaker is the new hit. I’ve seen them on men and women across campus. I’ve even seen women wearing men’s styles and totally rocking them.
Slip-on sneakers: I’m obsessed with slip-on sneakers, and I’m pretty sure the rest of the fashion world is, too. Almost every brand makes some type of slip-on sneaker. You can wear these in any season, as well as dress them up or dress them down.
The midi boot: They’re not as popular as over-the-knee boots, but they are definitely making their way up the fashion ladder. Coming up a few inches above your ankle, midi boots are a cute way to dress up your favorite pair of jeans. I’m in love with my velvet pair.

In the midst of Mother Nature torturing us with her freezing temperatures, it seems that she may finally give us a break. This week, we will see weather in the upper 50s and lower 60s. Personally, I couldn’t be more excited.
What will this raise in temperature mean for you fashion wise? It may be time to break out some spring clothes and ditch the winter coat, hats, scarfs and gloves. However, be sure to keep these items handy considering the unpredictable weather this time of year.
Last week, I saw students around campus in T-shirts when the weather suddenly shifted to 60 degrees. However, this spring-like weather was followed by a snowstorm the next day. One moment I was sitting outside soaking up sun rays in a short sleeve shirt and capris, and hours later, I was shoveling snow off my car bundled up from head to toe.
This week, however, Mother Nature won’t tease us with one day of spring weather, instead, we are expected to see an entire week of sunny skies.
If all goes well and the weather stays on schedule, this week will be filled with warmer weather, spring outfits and happier faces across campus. I’m predicting the winter coats replaced with lighter jean jackets, zip-up sweatshirts or loose tee’s.
My go-to outfit will be jeans with a loose long sleeve T-shirt paired with my slip-on sneakers. Slip-on sneakers are growing increasingly popular because they are stylish, yet comfortable for both men and women. If you haven’t got yourself a pair yet, I definitely recommend them because they are fitting for every season. These sneakers are perfect for this time of year, when the weather can change from spring to winter within hours.
Take advantage of the warmer weather this week and wear those spring outfits you’ve been dying to dig up from the back of your closet.

Whether it’s for an in-class presentation or an event hosted by the Career Center, even non-business students will have to put their sweatpants and sneakers away at some point during their college career. Regardless of whether you choose to dress business casual or strictly business attire, I recommend that you stock your closet with a few professional outfits.
Aside from on-campus events like career fairs or company information sessions, most students have outside interviews or business meetings to attend by the time their junior year approaches.
Even non-business students will have to put their sweatpants and sneakers away at some point (envato elements).
You can wear professional outfits if you simply feel like dressing up. But we might as well enjoy our laid-back outfits now, as I’m sure we won’t have as much time for them after graduation.
If you’re struggling with your professional style, no need to worry. I have a few tips for you. The best advice I have is to turn to your peers for inspiration. You can definitely bounce ideas off others and maybe even take a look at a friend’s closet.
You should also use your favorite apps, such as Instagram or Snapchat, to search for new ideas. Aside from following other students at the College, I recommend you follow some of your favorite celebrities because it will definitely inspire your professional style. Exploring fashion on social media can help you figure out what you do and do not like.
In addition, many websites have a look book feature, or a compilation of photographs that allows you to see various outfits and styles.
Wondering where to go? You can always try the department stores at the Quaker Bridge Mall, such as Macy’s or Lord & Taylor. However, if you don’t want to break your bank account, I recommend taking a drive to Route 1 to shop at Marshalls or Nordstrom Rack.

Winter break provides students and faculty enough time to shop and update their closet before returning to campus. The best part of the holiday season is sales, starting with Black Friday and ending with the day after Christmas sales. I definitely took advantage of these, and I could tell my peers did, as well.
The return to campus gives students and faculty a great way to show off their new clothes, shoes and accessories. You could rock your new outfit to class, the Library or the Brower Student Center.
The winter season and new semester are upon us and so are a multitude of new fashion trends. Fur pom-pom beanies are everywhere in stores and on heads around campus. The bigger the pom-pom, the cuter the beanie. They are the cutest way to keep warm.
Meanwhile, the choker has been reinvented. Back in the ’90s, there were a variety of styles, but now, the tie-up choker has become a staple. The choker is the perfect accessory to pair with a long knit sweater or leather jacket. The addition of a choker to any outfit can create so many different looks. Stylish chokers come in a variety of different materials with velvet being the most popular.
My favorite trend this season is the high-knee boot. I’ve seen countless students and faculty around the College wearing them. Whether they are heeled or flat, they are definitely more stylish than traditional boots. Over the next few months, I encourage you to keep an eye out for these trends around campus.
