The Lion's Women's lacrosse team defeated Salisbury University, by a score of 13-10, on Saturday, in their season opener. The Lions (1-0) was led by senior Liz O'Connor, who scored four goals, and senior Tara Prindible, who scored three goals and had an assist.

"It was a hard fought game. There were some first game errors, but overall things went really well," Lions' coach Sharon Pfluger said. The Lions were trailing 6-5 with seven minutes left in the first half, but Lions junior Katie Wagenblast, O'Connor and Prindible each scored a goal in a two-minute time interval to give the Lions a 8-6 halftime lead, which they would not relinquish.

The Lions started the second half with goals from O'Connor and freshman Bridget Bigley, who tallied three goals on the day. The Sea Gulls made a comeback to cut the College's lead to 10-9, but the Lions went on to score three of the last four goals of the game.

Also scoring for the Lions with one goal apiece were junior Jill Baldwin and Freshman Lauren Dougher. Junior Carin Heller tallied two assists and senior goalie Jen Munday recorded seven stops on 17 attempts.

Coach Pfluger is excited about the season and hopes to improve upon the opening game. "We expect to get better every game. We hope to contend for the national championship, but our goal is to just get better as a team in practice and in the games," Pfluger said. The College is coming off a 17-1 2002 campaign.

Junior Jessica White's three goals and assist led the Sea Gulls (2-1).

Freshman Lynsey Bateman had two goals and one assist and sophomore Linda Ackermann had two goals for the Sea Gulls.

The Lions next game will be their home opener on Thursday March 20 against Millersville University at 7:15 p.m. They will then play another home game against SUNY Cortland on Saturday, March 22, at 1:00 p.m.
