The College’s men’s tennis team finished their fall season at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Regional Championship on Saturday, Sept. 26, with the pair of junior Sidd Arudi and sophomore Tomas Velez going home co-champions.
Arudi and Velez defeated the pair of Joshua Bey and Ryan Huang of Baruch 8-6, to be named co-champions after both the College and a duo from New York University decided not to contest a finals matchup between the two.
The pair of senior Nathan Chan and freshman Felipe Postolov saw their regional run end after they were defeated 8-5 by NYU’s Bryan Hui and Boren Zheng in a close match. They made an impressive run, pushing all the way to the quarter finals. The duo fought their way through the likes of Farmingdale State and Union College, taking them down 8-4 and 8-6, respectively.
Postolov also saw success in his singles debut, defeating Jonas Santas of Vassar by scores of 6-3, 5-7 and 10-6, before he was eventually defeated in the second round by No. 16 Stuart Konezny with scores of 6-3, 5-7 and 10-5.
Senior Aidan Twamly also saw some second-round action, defeating Alan Wang of the University of Rochester by scores of 6-1, 5-7 and 11-9, before he was eventually stopped by Vassar’s Eugene Lee 6-3 and a 6-0 bagel.
The men’s tennis team has historically struggled at Skidmore College during the regular season. At Skidmore, they have gone 2-11 in a total of 13 matches from 2008 to 2026.
That is good for a win percentage of 15. In that time span, they have been outscored 36-70, losing their last eight matchups and going 1-9 in their last 10.
When the Lions return to Saratoga Springs, New York, during the regular season, they look to avenge their struggles at the tournament.
The College’s men’s tennis team season officially kicks off again in the Spring campaign, which starts up in February 2027. The team has high hopes as they look for a repeat of the success of last year where they secured their first Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference championship in program history. The team plays in the WIAC as there is no men’s tennis within the New Jersey Athletic Conference, the one which the College usually participates in.
