The College women’s lacrosse team won its last two games over the past week, both of which being New Jersey Athletic Conference games. The first game was against Stockton on April 23, where the College took a commanding win with a score of 16-5.
The College will also face Stockton in the semifinals of the NJAC Tournament.
Junior Marissa Lucca led the team in points in this game with nine, five of which were goals.
Fifth-year Ally Tobler also had a standout performance with eight points and five goals.
The College dominated in almost every metric besides saves (that being a byproduct of the lack of shots on goal faced). The game wasn’t particularly close, and the score and underlying stats reflect that.
In their second game of the stretch and the final game of the regular season, the College faced off against No. 23 Rowan, a team that had been a top contender for the top seed in the NJAC Tournament all season.
Rowan got its first loss in the NJAC and their second loss of the season when playing the Lions on April 26. The College took another strong win to close out the regular season in a score of 15-7.
Lucca led the team in points in this game as well, with seven, six of which were goals. Tobler was able to maintain her season-long streak of games with four or more points.
However, the real hero in this game was fifth-year goaltender Julia Charest. Charest posted a mind-boggling .720 save percentage with 18 saves, facing 25 shots on goal.
Rowan outshot the College 36 to 23. The difference maker in this game was goaltending and accuracy. Despite the College being outshot, 20 of the College’s 23 shots were on goal. This is significantly more accurate than Rowan’s 36 shots, with 25 being on goal.
With that said, goaltending helped close the game out with Charest playing the full 60 minutes and almost completely shutting down the Rowan offense with only seven goals against. This game ended up being a career high in saves for Charest as well.
This game being played on Senior Day meant fifth-years and seniors would be honored prior to the start of the game. The players honored consisted of Charest, Tobler, senior Emily Rau and senior Hailey Wexler.
After winning the NJAC regular season title, the Lions will now turn their attention to the NJAC Tournament.
