Brazilian soccer player Jorginho took to Instagram on March 21 to publicly confront “HOT TO GO!” singer Chappell Roan after an alleged altercation in São Paulo, Brazil.
Chappell Roan, or Kayleigh Rose Amstutz, is a one-time Grammy winner with 33 million monthly Spotify listeners, who came to fame from her 2023 album “The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess.”
Jorginho posted a public Instagram story explaining the “very upsetting situation” that occurred between the singer and his 11-year-old stepchild Ada Law, daughter of Jude Law and his ex-wife Catherine Harding.
He goes on to explain that he and his family were staying at the same hotel as the singer due to Lollapalooza. Roan had walked past their table and Ada wanted to make sure it really was the artist because “she was so happy to see an artist she really admires, or used to admire.” Ada had simply walked past the singer's table, saw it was her and smiled, and then walked back to her table.
What followed, Jorginho could only describe as “completely disproportionate.”
A “large” security guard had approached their table soon after, telling the family he could not allow them to “harass” or “disrespect” others and that he would file a complaint against them to the hotel. Jorginho explains that this left the young fan shaking and in tears.
He ended the post saying, “Without your fans, you would be nothing. And to all the fans, she does not deserve your affection.”
The internet took to this post immediately due to this not being the first time Roan has been involved in a controversy over her fans.
Back in August 2024, the singer posted a TikTok saying, “I don’t want whatever the f— you think you’re supposed to to be entitled to whenever you see a celebrity. I don’t give a f— if you think it’s selfish of me to say no for a photo or for your time or for a hug…that’s not normal, that’s weird!”
The following day, Roan posted an apology video on her Instagram claiming she had no idea anyone approached her table and that the security guard involved was not her security guard.
Roan began, “I didn’t even see a woman and a child, like no one came up to me, no one bothered me… I did not ask this security guard to go up to talk to this mother and child, they did not come up to me, they weren’t doing anything. It’s unfair for security to just assume someone doesn’t have good intentions when they have no reason to believe because there’s no action even taken.”
She continued, “I do not hate people who are fans of my music. I do not hate children. I am sorry to the mother and child that someone was assuming something, that you would do something, and that if you felt uncomfortable, that makes me really sad. You did not deserve that.”
However, not everyone on the internet believes her apology, saying “If it wasn't a hotel security and it's not Roan’s security according to her, whose security is he?” and “I shall respect your boundaries by not listening to your music.”
Even Tangará Palace, São Paulo’s luxury hotel, went to Brazil’s showbiz columnist Leo Dias in a statement, “Jorginho and his wife make it clear that the hotel is not involved in the situation involving the singer.” This statement only fueled online commenters' belief against the singer.
The aforementioned security guard was later identified as Pascal Duvier, made famous for guarding the Kardashian family, Kanye West, Kendrick Lamar and others. On March 26, Duvier also took to Instagram to post his own statement hoping to clear up the incident.
He wrote, “I do not normally address online rumors, but the accusations currently circulating are false and constitute defamation.”
He continued, “I take full responsibility for the interactions on March 21. I was at the hotel on behalf of another individual, and I was not part of the personal security team of Chappell Roan. The actions I took were not on behalf of Chappell Roan, her personal security team, her management, or any other individuals. I made a judgment call based on information we obtained from the hotel, events I had witnessed in the days prior and the heightened overall security risk of our location. My sole interaction with the mother was calm and with good intentions, and the outcome of the encounter is regretful.”
