The College’s women's lacrosse team's 13th game of the season took place on Wednesday, April 15. It was also the game following the disappointing loss to Salisbury on April 11, which was also their Senior Day.
They won with a dominant score of 21-4 against Nuemann, a much needed win after losing 6-4 against the No. 4 team in the country, Salisbury. At this point in the season, the College is 11-2 and ranks No. 14 in the nation.
Senior Marissa Lucca had a season high of 14 points in a single game, with five goals and nine assists. Lucca continues her already offensively dominant season with her most impressive performance yet. With junior CJ Kole being out of the lineup, the team needed players to step up offensively. Lucca did just that on top of her already team-leading production.
Senior midfielder/defense Sydney Sieja scored a goal, a rarity for defensive players, on top of her three ground balls and two caused turnovers. Sieja now has a season total of 21 ground balls and 11 caused turnovers.
Senior defender Megan Hogan also put up a valiant defensive effort with two ground balls and two caused turnovers. This adds to her season total of 15 ground balls and 14 caused turnovers.
Fifth-year goalkeeper Hailey Wexler had one goal against with 30 minutes of play. On the season she posted a .518 save percentage with her season best performance coming in the loss to Salisbury with a .684 save percentage.
Despite them not getting the result they wanted against Salisbury, they certainly responded well against Neumann, as clearly indicated by the final score of the game.
Nearly every metric indicating possession was dominated by the College. They had 30 shots, 23 shots on goal and 27 ground balls.
Other notable performances include a season high eight point night from freshman Evie Cambell along with five ground balls, and a four goal game from sophomore Kelly Nevins. Junior Emily Potenza also had a hat-trick and a team leading five draw controls. Sophomore defender Ashley Herlihy had a three point game with two goals, one assist, four ground balls, and five caused turnovers.
Their final three games of the regular season are all against NJAC opponents. The College’s next game against Ramapo will be held at home Saturday, April 18. Wednesday, April 22, will also be home against Stockton. To close out the season, the College will face off against the No. 9 ranked Rowan away, Saturday April 25.
The collective effort from the team is reflected in the game’s boxscore. A meaningful statement victory after a hard fought loss on senior day is emblematic of the totality of this season so far. When faced with adversity, the next game’s expectation is to bounce back. It is what has led them to their 11-2 record.
