President Donald Trump announced via Truth Social on April 2 that he had removed Attorney General Pam Bondi from her post, ending her year-long service to the nation.

In his post, he also mentioned her replacement, Todd Blanche, an American attorney and former prosecutor. The decision marks the second major Cabinet shakeup in recent weeks.

Trump praised Bondi as “a Great American Patriot and loyal friend,” writing that she had “faithfully served” as his attorney general for the previous year.

He added that Bondi would be “transitioning to a much needed and important new job in the private sector,” though he did not specify the role.

Bondi echoed that message in her own statement released a few hours later on X, saying she would spend the next month “working tirelessly to transition the office of Attorney General to the amazing Todd Blanche,” before she transitions to the private sector.

She described her tenure as “the most consequential first year of the Department of Justice in American history,” citing what she called a historic reduction in murder rates, terrorism convictions against Antifa members, gang crackdowns, cartel arrests and 24 favorable Supreme Court rulings.

According to NBC News, two sources said Bondi was fired, and one described Trump as increasingly frustrated that she had not “executed on his visions” on several key priorities.

CNN similarly reported that Trump had been dissatisfied with her handling of the Jeffrey Epstein files on her failure to pursue investigations into some of his political opponents.

Both outlets noted that Trump personally informed Bondi on April 1 that her time in the role was ending.

Bondi is the second Cabinet official Trump has removed in recent weeks, following the firing of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem.

The New York Post reported that her ouster is part of a broader reshuffling and that Trump is considering several loyalists for the permanent attorney general role.

Blanche thanked the president on X, and wrote that Bondi “led this Department with strength and conviction” and pledging to “continue backing the blue, enforcing the law, and doing everything in our power to keep America safe.”
