The College’s women’s tennis team saw action this weekend in the United States Tennis Association (USTA)/Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Northeast Regional that took place in Geneva, NY, from Saturday, Sept. 27, through Monday, Sept. 29.
The Lions had a very strong tournament, with all four players that competed in the singles bracket recording at least one victory. In doubles action, junior captains Jasmine Muniz-Cadorette and Emma Allen played well into the quarterfinals.
Sophomore Anna Prestera and freshman Maddy Stoner fought hard place second in the consolation bracket, dropping a tight 8-6 match in the finals. Muniz-Cadorette advanced to the quarterfinals in singles play with three wins before dropping a nail-biting three-set match to sixth-seeded Kirsten Ackerman from the Sage College. Also in singles play, Allen and sophomore Katie Buchbinder scored wins in the opening round of the tournament.
The highlight of the tournament, however, may have been the incredible run through the tournament by freshman Brittany Reedman, who strung together five straight victories to advance to the finals. Her quest for the tournament title fell short in the title match when she fell, 6-0 to Kate Christensen from Vassar College. Reedman recorded the biggest win of her career in the semifinals against William Paterson’s Brittany LaBruna by a score of 6-2, 2-6, 6-1. LaBruna had entered the tournament as the top seed and was also the defending champion.
Reedman had an impressive start to the tournament, as well, knocking off three seeded players in her first four matches. After winning in straight sets in the opening round, she knocked off the fourth, eighth and ninth seeds in succession to earn a spot in the semis.
This tournament was the last event on the schedule for the Lions, as they now prepare themselves for conference tournament play.

The College’s women’s tennis team hosted the two-day Lion’s invitational against New York University on Friday, Sept. 12, and Saturday, Sept. 13.
The team received a number of quality performances in both singles and doubles play.
Six different Lion’s picked up wins in singles play on the opening day, including wins from junior Victoria Michels, sophomore Katie Buchbinder and freshmen Nadia Olesnycky, Kristen Malpas, Brittany Reedman and Danna Tsay.
Junior captain Emma Allen had strong praise for Buchbinder’s performance in singles play.
“She was sick before the match, but she didn’t let that slow her down,” Allen said. “She fought hard the whole match and won it in a tiebreaker, and we couldn’t be more proud of her.”
Doubles play saw impressive victories for Reedman and Maddy Stoner, Reedman and Tsay and junior Jasmine Muniz-Cadorette and Emma Allen.
“NYU is such a strong team,” Allen said. “They have an incredibly deep roster, not unlike our own. Whether they were winning or losing, everyone fought hard. We played tremendously.”
The College’s men’s tennis team was also active in the tournament, opening their season against the NYU men.
The Lions won all four doubles matches on Saturday, with sophomores Jack August and Pierce Cooper posting scores of 8-0 and 8-3. The tandem of sophomores Billy Buchbinder and Jason Prezant also won in doubles with scores of 8-2 and 8-5.
The College also had a number of players post victories in their singles matches, with wins going to August, Cooper, Chris D’Agostino, Marc Friedmen and Mike Stanley. The men next compete in the ITA Northeast Regional Championships from Saturday, Sept. 20 to Sunday, Sept. 22.
Earlier in the week, the College’s women’s tennis had a very strong home opener, besting the Stockton Ospreys 9-0.
The win stretches the Lion’s conference win streak to 157, a streak that began in 1983. Doubles action saw junior captains Jasmine Muniz-Cadorette and Emma Allen netting an 8-1 victory at the top position, while freshmen Nadia Olesnycky and Maddy Stoner won at second doubles 8-4.
Sophomores Katie Buchbinder and Anna Prestera won third doubles by a mark of 8-2.
“Nerves aren’t an issue anymore” Allen said. “Everyone seems fully comfortable on the court now.”
All six points in single play were swept, with Buchbinder, Muniz-Cadorette, Brittany Reedman, Allen, Stoner and Prestera all earning victories in the first six slots.
The win bumped the Lion’s record to 3-0 while dropping Stockton to a record of 2-2.
“It’s amazing how all of our players can compete with each other,” Allen said. “Every one of our ten players has the skill to compete.”
The girls return to dual meet action on Saturday, Sept. 20, where they will host conference opponent Kean University at 12 p.m.

This Wednesday, the College womens tennis team annihilated the Ramapo Roadrunners 9-0 to score yet another New Jersey Athletic Conference victory, pushing its record to 2-0 and its consecutive win streak to 156.
Junior captains Jasmine Muniz-Cadorette and Emma Allen opened the match with an 8-0 win, while freshmen Maddy Stoner and Nadia Olesnycky won by the score of 8-3.
The third doubles match of the day, featuring sophomores Katie Buchbinder and Anna Prestera, followed suit with an 8-1 victory.
Allen commented on this aspect of her team’s play.
“Doubles matches are huge for us because they happen first, which is a huge chance for us to build momentum and make us more relaxed in singles matches,” Allen said.
Both Allen and Muniz-Cadorette praised the skill of the five freshmen on the team and commended the efforts of the veteran players for making the freshmen feel welcome on the team.
Singles action saw similar results, as Muniz-Cadorette, Buchbinder, Brittany Reedman, Allen, Stoner and Prestera all contributed to sweep the field.
“Having a positive attitude going into matches is still something we strive for,” Muniz-Cadorette said. “When your whole team has your back and is supporting you, it gives you a much more confident mindset for when you perform.”
The girls shift focus now to preparing for their home opener against Richard Stockton College on Wednesday, Sept. 10.

The College’s women’s tennis team led a dominating outing against Rutgers-Camden Sunday, Aug. 31, winning 9-0.
The win pushed the team’s consecutive conference win streak to 155 straight, a record that dates back to the 1982 season. This win is a step in the right direction for the team’s end-of-season goal, a 32nd straight season where the girls win their conference.
The team swept all three points in doubles action and saw junior captains Jasmine Muniz-Cadorette and Emma Allen dominate their competition by a score of 8-0, a score that was matched by the sophomore tandem of Katie Buchbinder and Anna Prestera.
Freshmen Maddy Stoner and Nadia Olesnycky paired up and won 8-2 against the competition, which was their first win as members of the team.
In singles action, the Lions also took all six points, with Prestera, Buchbinder, Muniz-Cadorette, Allen and Stoner all recording their second wins on the day.
Freshman Brittany Reedman earned her first collegiate win in the third singles match in perfect sets. The loss drops the Scarlet Raptors to 1-2 on the year.
Next up, the Lions travel to Ramapo to compete against the Roadrunners on Wednesday, Sept. 3, at 3:30 p.m.
The week after, the Lions take to their home turf against Stockton College on Sept. 10 at 4 p.m.

Coach Scott Dicheck, who has been with the team for the past 15 years, said the goal for this season is to win the NJAC Conference tournament to qualify for the NCAA tournament.
“We have a very unique group this year,” Dicheck said. “With five returning players and five incoming freshmen, we have a core group of young players learning from the experience of the older players.”
Dicheck was also pleasantly surprised at the speed at which the freshmen became relaxed in their new team setting. He highlighted doubles sets as a focus of the team, which are played at the beginning of every match before the singles sets are played.
“The best girls in high school usually played only singles,” Dicheck said. “If we can win doubles, it gives us a huge leg up for the rest of the match.”
He also emphasized the importance of the preseason regiment the team is on, explaining that preseason is where the team builds chemistry and is able to focus on fundamentals.
The speed at which the team’s chemistry formed impressed him — it wasn’t lost on the team’s two captains, either. Juniors Jasmine Muniz-Cadorette and Emma Allen also commented on the team’s unison.
“A lot of our preparation in the summer is focused on individual work, but when we all practice together in the preseason, we really spend time making sure everyone is comfortable,” Allen said.
The two captains spoke about the team’s expectations and on their sustained success.
“Even though we’ve won 151 straight conference matches, every new win feels special,” Muniz-Cadorette said.
The two also emphasized goals of their leadership roles: pushing players to new limits and positivity.
Both Allen and Muniz-Cadorette are most looking forward to Nationals, where they can showcase their talents against the rest of the nation.
The girls play their first match against Rutgers in Camden on Sunday, Aug. 31, at 11 a.m., while their first home match against Stockton College is on Wednesday, Sept. 10.
