Palisades fire suspect found

The United States Department of Justice announced that they have arrested a suspect for a deadly fire in the Pacific Palisades, a neighborhood in Los Angeles, CA, that took place in January 2025. Meanwhile, the Los Angeles Fire Department faces criticism that they could have prevented a resurgence of the fire that took place days later.

United States Government shuts down

The United States government shut down at midnight on Oct. 1 after Congress faced a deadlock regarding the 2026 budget, according to CNN Politics. Many worry that the shutdown could lead to significant problems as all non-essential operations come to a halt and some federal workers face blocked salaries.

Trump’s state visit to the UK

President Donald Trump concluded his second state visit to the United Kingdom on Sept. 18 after three days of meetings and lavish ceremonies. According to The Independent, although some see economic and political potential in Trump’s visit, many found the visit to be overly lavish and extravagant.

China’s military parade strains international politics

As a climax to the various World War II remembrance celebrations this year, Sept. 3 marked the 80th anniversary of Japan’s surrender to the Chinese government. The People’s Republic of China celebrated with a military parade at Tiananmen Square in Beijing, where, according to CNN World, over 50,000 people gathered.
