Dance 'The Tango' in Philly Bar

Heads up! This article was imported from a previous version of The Signal. If you notice any issues, please let us know.

Whiskey Tango Tavern is an emerging hot spot in Northeast Philadelphia. It shares many of the common characteristics of other bars in the area, such as great music and drink specials. Separating The Whiskey Tango from its competition, however, are its crowd, array of top musicians, large dance floors, multiple events and DJs. It's a great spot to relax, listen to great music and have a good time.

The name Whiskey Tango may sound familiar because it has other locations at the Tweeter Center, The TLA, Electric Factory and Tower Theater. The exposure these venues give the chain helps attract a large crowd of individuals from the surrounding areas of Philadelphia, New Jersey and Delaware. It also helps attract the hottest local bands and musicians in the greater Philadelphia area.

The atmosphere and crowd change according to what musicians and bands are playing, so be sure to check the schedule. The patrons of The Whiskey Tango are usually a mix of college students, young adults and rock enthusiasts. The bar attracts many locals. Overall, the atmosphere is low-key and relaxed. You would feel comfortable in jeans and a nice top. Some get more dressed up, but the scene is definitely not trendy.

Live entertainment is hands down The Whiskey Tango's greatest appeal. The lineup of entertainment showcased at Whiskey Tango is top quality. From original rock to cover music, The Whiskey Tango always features the best local musicians. Bands such as Octane, Split Decision and Monkey Bus are frequently featured. The performances are up-close, personal and intense. On Sunday nights, musician Brian Bortnick makes the atmosphere chill and mellow with his accoustic guitar performances. If bands aren't your thing, the upstairs provides an option to those who enjoy dancing as it has a dance floor and bar. The featured DJs spin an array of hip-hop, dance and pop, and the dance floor is extremely spacious. Because of this, there is plenty of room to dance and mingle.

Unlike most Philadelphia bars, The Whiskey Tango provides free parking for its patrons. It is not too far away from the College and is located in a nice area of Philadelphia where you don't have to deal with the traffic and expense that comes along with going into the city for downtown Philadelphia bars.

The Whiskey Tango is open seven days a week from 11 p.m. to 2 a.m. and features no cover from Sunday to Thursday. Drinks are not too expensive and bar specials are often featured as well. All in all, The Whiskey Tango is a great bar to go and listen to the top local bands not too far away from home.
