As New York Fashion Week comes to an end, the city proves once again that fashion never sleeps. High-end brands have flaunted their latest collections, celebrities have made their appearances, and, of course, people have things to say.
One of the best parts about New York Fashion Week is the people watching. Martha Stewart, Lindsey Lohan, Grace VanderWaal and Bad Bunny are just a few celebrities who were seen owning the streets of New York City.
Huda Mustafa has been the talk of the town. Starring in the beloved reality show, “Love Island USA”, Huda made her runway debut at New York Fashion Week for Rick Ross’s Edition 22, hand in hand with another “Love Island USA” Season 7 alumni, Olandria Carthen. She made her runway debut walking the Sergio Hudson show. Carthen also strutted down the Raising Cane's runway.
Dream Kardashian, daughter of Rob Kardashian and Blac Chyna, owned the stage for Zeus & Lexi at just eight years old. This wasn’t her first rodeo, as this is the young Kardashian’s second year walking in NYFW.
Kulture Cephus, the daughter of rappers Cardi B and Offset, also made a splash. Although she didn’t strut runways, Kulture made her presence known with her natural-born confidence, captivating photographers at the Alexander Wang show she attended with her mother, Cardi B.
With more than 60 shows featured during this year's NYFW, similar styles have been observed among different designers. Lace, polka dots and balloon pants have gained attention at the beginning of the year, and they’ve been seen on the runways, confirming that these trends will stay for a while.
The glitz and sparkle of the jewelry were hard to miss. As statement pieces are back in style, jewelry trends have been noted, and the spectrum is full. Boho-inspired pieces have been seen on nearly every fashionista this week. These chunky pieces, ranging from necklaces to bracelets, are not only the stereotypical silver or gold but also include elements like wood, resin and gemstones.
However, this year's NYFW has stirred negative comments. Many have commented on the lack of diversity seen on the runways and noted that the stereotypical American blonde has taken over fashion.
Ella Halikas, a Sports Illustrated model, expressed her disappointment to TMZ. She discusses that the recent Ozempic obsession has been reflected by models chosen to represent top designers. “It’s a little disappointing,” said Halikas. “I feel like each year gets worse and worse… especially with the direction of thinner being ‘in.’”
Moreover, people have noticed how “nepo babies” have taken over NYFW. They took over the whole front row at Michael Kors. Isan Elba, Olivia Jade Giannulli, Ava Phillipe, Audrey McGraw and Leni Olumi Klum were grouped, sitting shoulder to shoulder right at the front of the show.
Fashion Week has taken off in New York and the chaos in the city finally winds down, but it’s not over just yet. The frenzy has flown to London, will soon lay over in Milan, and the series of fashion weeks will make its final stop in Paris. What will unfold in each city is the question all fashionistas are waiting for.
