Field Hockey climbed the rankings after an upset win over No. 11 Ursinus. The Lions moved up three positions from No. 20 to a No. 17 ranking.
The win against Ursinus on Sept. 20 was hard-fought. Senior goalie Brigette Racey kept her cool in goal, tallying eleven saves on fourteen shots on the day. The Bears dominated for most of the game, outshooting the Lions in all but one of the periods.
The first period saw this trend, as Ursinus outshot the Lions 5-1 and attempted three penalty corners. The Lions' defense was resilient, however, as they kept the Bears from scoring.
Despite Urinus’s offensive effort, the Lions were able to find the net with junior Codie Sciacca scoring her first goal of the season, assisted by junior Jadyn Huff.
The second period saw more of a strong defensive performance from the Lions, who didn’t allow a single shot on four attempted corners.
Following half-time, the Bears came out strong. Six unanswered shots managed to find Ursinus its first goal of the game to tie it at 1-1. The Lions would have to ramp up their offense to win it before regulation ended.
The College came out strong in the fourth period, with an onslaught of unanswered shots that would result in the go-ahead goal in the 56th minute. Huff managed to pick up her sixth goal of the season, assisted by sophomore Prisha Dhruve.
The Lions' defense would hold off Ursinus for the remainder of the game, giving the Lions a 2-1 over the higher-ranked Bears.
The team enjoyed a day off on Sept. 25 before they have to travel to Pennsylvania to take on Lebanon Valley on Sept. 27 at 1 p.m.
