Grammy award winning rapper Megan Thee Stallion confirmed the end of her relationship with basketball star Klay Thompson on April 25.
Fans were first notified when the rapper posted a vague message on her Instagram story. A piece of the text read, “Holding you down through all your HORRIBLE mood swings and treatment towards me during your basketball season now you don’t know if you can be ‘monogamous’????”
Megan and Thompson, shooting guard for the Dallas Mavericks, began dating in the summer of 2025. Their relationship seemed to be thriving, with a comment about a “manifested engagement” being made by the rapper earlier this year.
From a red carpet debut to meeting the family and having a boat named after her, Megan’s breakup is startling.
In a later statement to Billboard, she stated, “I’ve made the decision to end my relationship with Klay…trust, fidelity and respect are non-negotiable for me in a relationship, and when those values are compromised, there’s no real path forward. I’m taking this time to prioritize myself and move ahead with peace and clarity.”
Since the breakup was confirmed, there has been a significant amount of public fallouts. WNBA star Lexie Brown was accused of being ‘the other woman,’ and posted to her own Instagram story, saying “I've seen what's being said online and I want to be clear, none of it is true and I have no involvement in this situation.”
Megan also announced that she would be leaving her run in the current Broadway production of Moulin Rouge earlier than she planned. Stating medical concerns, as well the implications of her breakup, she decided that her final show as Zidler will be May 1 instead of May 17.
On the other hand, Thompson has not addressed the breakup whatsoever. A video of an apparent livestream has been circulating the internet, where he is seen drinking, listening to music and steering his boat through the ocean.
But the outrage on Megan’s behalf has been overwhelming. Social media users have posted everything from Thompson’s worst basketball plays to threats, manifestations of a sports injury and an insistence on the breakup as the big focus of the news.
