Communication between students and administrators regarding the reorganization of the office of Student Life seems to be improving, according to SGA President Christina Puglia.
During the SGA meeting last Wednesday, Puglia said that there is a great improvement since the first meeting held on Sept. 5 between Mary-Elaine Perry, vice president for Student Life, seven other student leaders and herself.
"We've made tremendous progress," Puglia said. "We've definitely had our voices heard," she added.
SGA members replied with enthusiastic applause.
SGA also passed four changes to the SGA bylaws.
The modifications had been initially presented by Marco Zelaya, vice president of Legal & Governmental Affairs, at the previous week's meeting.
The changes, however, had been tabled for later discussion.
The alterations to the bylaws affect the duties of the alternate student trustee, the SGA representative to the Student Finance Board (SFB), the vice president of Student Services and the student trustee.
Zelaya presented his hopes that at a future meeting, the SGA will vote to officially adopt a logo as "ours and ours only."
Concern was expressed regarding an existing student organization that may have a similar logo.
Zelaya said this matter should be investigated.
The Student Finance Board Co-Sponsorship Bill and an SGA Leadership Criteria bill passed.
The latter bill regards the options of SGA leaders when faced with academic or judicial probation.
There will be a voter registration drive from Sept. 29 to Oct. 3.
An absentee ballot drive will also be held at a later date.
These will be co-sponsored by the Mercer County League of Women Voters.
During the Open Public Forum section of the meeting, members inquired about why there are so many broken machines in the Packer Hall gym.
Others mentioned the problems with the air conditioning in New Residence Hall, the status of the gravel lot between Decker and Cromwell and random branches that have fallen around campus.
Additionally, senator Keith Jeronimus said that he was concerned about the construction of a "full-sized cell phone antenna" near the trash chute in Wolfe.
According to Jeronimus, he is a Peer Advisor (PA) in Wolfe and the antenna would be right next to the PAs' bedrooms.
There was also an announcement of good news for Centennial residents - lights and asphalt should be installed soon near the building.
Two changes in SGA membership were also announced. Chris Tuohy is a new senator, and the position of vice president of Community Relations is now vacant, after a resignation by Caitlin Stinneford.
