The College has welcomed Bradley Brewster and Susanne Svizeny as the newest members of its Board of Trustees. Both were nominated for positions on the board by Gov. James E. McGreevey and will be officially sworn into office on Oct. 7 at 3:30 p.m. in Brower Student Center.
"I am absolutely thrilled with the appointments of Brad Brewster and Susanne Svizeny to the Board of Trustees of the College," College President R. Barbara Gitenstein, said. "Both bring special skill sets and a commitment to higher education in general and TCNJ in particular.
"We are so fortunate that individuals of this quality are willing to serve as members of our board," she added.
Brewster, a former member of the Board of Trustees at Montclair State University, brings both knowledge and experience to his new appointment.
"My appointment to the board by the governor carries an obligation to keep TCNJ affordable and available to a wide range of qualified students," Brewster said.
He has had an active political career as a partner of Winning Strategies Washington, a lobbying and governmental affairs firm, and of the Princeton Public Affairs Group.
Prior to his partnership, he graduated from Ursinus College in 1974 and from Vermont Law School in 1978. Brewster practiced private law before serving as counsel to the Assembly's Judiciary, Law and Public Safety Committees from 1979 to 1984.
Brewster next held the position of Executive Director of the New Jersey General Assembly's Majority Office from 1984 to 1989.
In addition, he served as the chairperson of the Department of Environmental Protection and Energy Transition Team for Gov. Christie Whitman.
As a former college athlete, Brewster said he is "especially interested in the College's exceptionally successful sports programs." He said he is also dedicated to improving the fund-raising efforts at the College.
Svizeny said she, too, is "excited about the prospect of being able to play a leadership role in the future of The College of New Jersey."
Since 1999, she has acted as the regional president of Wachovia Bank for central and southern New Jersey, with the responsibility of leading all key general banking business lines from these regions.
She was recognized as one of the Top 25 Women of Influence in the 2003 publication of "NJBiz" and has previously served as the chairwoman for the College's Foundation Board.
As an alumna of the College, she graduated in 1979 with a bachelor's degree in business administration. She said she plans to integrate her business and financial background "to help TCNJ reach its full potential."
"I am excited that an alumna of the College will be appointed to the board," Stefanie Nieves, alternate student trustee on the board, said.
Nieves attends board meetings with the College's student trustee, Annelise Catanzaro, to voice the concerns of the student body.
