On Jan. 19 at 3:40 a.m., Campus Police was dispatched to Cromwell Hall on a report of a fire alarm.
The building fire annunciator panel reported a smoke detector activated on the second floor. An investigation revealed that unknown persons activated the fire extinguisher in the second floor hallway, which activated the alarm.
At 3:45 a.m., while checking rooms on the third floor, a community Advisor (CA) found an unresponsive male on the top bunk.
The CA contacted Campus Police, and officers made several unsuccessful attempts to awaken the student.
There was a strong smell of alcohol emanating from the student, and Campus Police requested medical assistance.
At this time, the fire alarm was still activated with full audible alarms sounding in the hallway and the student's room.
The officers continued to try to wake the student before medical staff arrived.
In one attempt to wake the student up, he picked up his head and pointed his middle finger towards officers and Res-Life staff.
The officers ordered the student to leave the building, to which the student gave a slurred and incoherent response.
In a final attempt to wake the student, an officer applied a wrist lock to the student's right arm, after which the student became responsive.
When ordered to get dressed and leave the building, the student dressed himself in two pairs of shorts and explained that he had consumed alcoholic beverages earlier in the evening.
After approximately 10 minutes, during which the student dressed and wandered aimlessly around his room, Lions EMS arrived and handled the scene.
The student was escorted by professional staff via ambulance to Helene Fuld Medical Center for alcohol intoxication.
The student was issued a summons for underage consumption of alcoholic beverages.

On Jan. 17 at 5:05 p.m., a student came to Campus Police to report a harassing phone call. The student stated that he had received a phone call at his Ewing residence earlier that day from an unknown male with a Middle Eastern accent claiming to represent the "Government Grant Information Guide."
The man attempted to obtain personal banking information from the student.
The man asked the student what bank he did business with and if he filed his taxes.
The man then tried to secure the student's checking account number.
When the student grew suspicious, the caller gave him a phone number, an identification number and a four-digit pin code for verification.
Upon calling the toll free number, the student reached an answering machine.
The message said, "Thank you for calling customer service. Our office hours are Monday through Friday 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Mountain Standard Time. We will be closed on Monday Jan. 17 for Martin Luther King Jr. Day."
Prior to coming to Campus Police, the student went to Student Financial Services and received a handout that identified a known scam based on government conversions of loans to grants.
The victim was advised by Campus Police to follow the instructions on the handout and report any further contact attempts.

On Jan. 25, a man came to Campus Police to report a theft. A representative from the company Penn Lyon Homes, Inc.
He stated that sometime between Jan. 19 and Jan. 21, a twenty foot Haulmark brand trailer and its contents were stolen from Lot 5. The total value of the theft was $9,320.
A check of campus revealed no trailer, and there was no record of towing or impounding.
The trailer was entered in the National Crime Information Center, a database of crime information.
