UPDATE: According to a March 11 email from Director of Student Involvement Dave Conner, group travel is cancelled and both on and off-campus social activities are "highly discouraged" from Saturday, March 14 to Sunday, April 5. Events and meetings that are believed to involve more than 15 people are cancelled, and events with less than 15 will be reviewed on a case by case basis. All activities that include vendor tables during this period are cancelled.
President Kathryn Foster announced in a campus-wide email that classes will resume online for two weeks following spring break in a precautionary measure against an outbreak of coronavirus on Tuesday, March 10.
“Beginning the Monday following Spring Break (March 23), and continuing for a period of two weeks, TCNJ will conduct all classes online,” Foster wrote. “While the campus will remain open, students are strongly encouraged to stay home.”
This announcement followed a pre-scheduled meeting with all state school presidents, according to Associate Vice President for Communications, Marketing and Brand Management Dave Muha.
Although the meeting was scheduled without the primary intent of discussing coronavirus, following Rowan University’s decision to extend their spring break through March 27, Interim Provost William Keep speculated that such measures for the College would be “topic No. 1.”
Students were speculating that such measures would be taken in the days leading up to Foster’s announcement.
“I feel like they’re just going to follow the footsteps of the other New Jersey state colleges,” said Allie Moukios, a junior health and exercise science major.
