OPINION: France continues to restrict women’s rights with abaya ban

France recently declared a ban on long robes in state schools. While this announcement may seem inconspicuous, the ban is a continuation of France curtailing Muslim women’s rights while secularizing the country. Gabriel Attal, France’s education minister, specifically stated that abayas, long, loose dresses often worn by Muslim women, and kameez, the male equivalent, were no longer allowed in schools, according to AP. According to Attal, these pieces of clothing are in violation of France’s 2004 ban against religious symbols in public schools.

OPINION: Danny Masterson and why I’m leaving ‘That 70’s Show’ behind

I have probably watched ‘That 70’s Show’ five or more times, but I will not be watching it again, or its recent 90’s spinoff. It is just too much. There was never anything progressive about it. Any sexual liberation in the show is wholly on the part of the men. ‘That 70’s Show’ paints a similar rape-culture-enforcing picture that many others do. Women do not really mean it when they say no, getting a woman drunk is the same as getting her consent and a certain amount of misogyny is to be expected from men; all women can do is put up with it.

OPINION: The “Woke” Myth

Do corporations even care about representation in their products? I believe the answer is a resounding no. Disney, despite criticizing Florida governor Ron Desantis for his LGBTQ+ policies, has continued to donate to Republican politicians in Florida. According to a Politico article written by Gary Fineout, “the company gave $125,000 to the Republican Party of Florida and $65,000 to a committee that helps elect GOP state senators, led by incoming state Senate President Kathleen Passidomo.”

OPINION: The Republican Party is moving further to the right…and it will backfire

I believe the further to the right the GOP goes, the harder it will be for them to win elections. Barring the fact the GOP has not won the popular vote since 2004, it is obvious the American people know what they want. They know the difference between policies that benefit them and culture war issues. Only time will tell for sure how moving further right will affect the Republican Party electorally.

OPINION: Freshmen can find comfort in color

Coincidentally for me, I implemented both the color I associated with most and the color I thought I should test out for college: yellow and green. Apart from those colors complementing each other nicely, I thought it ironic and fitting how I was bringing my comfort color into such an unknown environment, almost as if I knew that this was something I knew I would need to help me in the upcoming weeks.

Letter to the Editor: Cabinet should be replaced

To the Editor: One of the first steps that the new interim president should take is to ask for the resignation of Dr. Foster’s Cabinet and leadership team. They collectively have caused the decline of the College, tarnished its reputation and damaged its long-term future. Removing Dr. Foster is not sufficient if the remainder of the leadership stays. Mark my words that if the top leadership in Student Affairs, Development, Operations and Admissions are not changed, the rapid decline of the College will continue, regardless of who is at the helm.
