As of Dec. 3 on the Fall 2021 Covid-19 Dashboard, there were 17 positive cases in students and five among employees in the past 14 days (fall2021.tcnj.edu).

With recent rise in Covid-19 cases and concerns, the College turns to a three-pronged approach to testing

Following the Thanksgiving break and an increase in Covid-19 cases statewide, the College is combating the possible spread with a three-pronged approach to testing, according to an email sent to students on Nov. 29 by Director of Student Health Services Janice Vermeychuk. The College looks to monitor and lower the infection rate on campus in a timely manner using a three-pronged approach consisting of mandatory, random and voluntary testing.

Unión Latina’s Noche De Carnaval unites students through dance

On Nov. 14, Unión Latina hosted their annual gala in the Brower Student Center, with the theme this year being “Noche de Carnaval.” These galas, which have a different theme each year, are meant to celebrate Hispanic heritage and expose students to a taste of the Hispanic culture. These events have provided a formal night of dancing, socialising and food for over 10 years at the College.

Murphy wins tight race against Ciattarelli in New Jersey gubernatorial election; student population awarded for high voter turnout in 2020 election

On Nov. 3, Phil Murphy was reelected as governor of New Jersey after a close race against Republican nominee Jack Ciattarelli.  Though most New Jersey voters are registered as Democrats, Murphy and Ciattarelli remained neck and neck throughout the entire election, with more counties voting Republican than Democrat, according to The New York Times. This close call came as a shock to many pollsters, who had predicted an easy win from Murphy.

The Loop Bus starts up again with slight modifications

In an email sent to students on Sept. 20, Namitha Sethuraman, the administrative director of the Student Finance Board (SFB), announced that starting Sept. 24, students would be able to use the Loop Bus again. Running on Fridays and Saturdays, the Loop Bus is available for any student free of charge.

Students, faculty and staff gathered virtually with local business owners and community members on Nov. 10 for the 11th annual Women’s Leadership Summit, hosted virtually by the School of Business. The one-day webinar consisted of a series of guest speakers, including an introduction from this year’s keynote speaker and author of “The Lost Art of Connecting: The Gather, Ask, Do Method for Building Meaningful Relationships,” Sarah McPherson.

‘Fall Fest’ spreads sustainability and promotes students organizations at Campus Garden

The College’s Environmental Sustainability Council and Bonner Institute hosted “Fall Fest” for the campus community on Nov. 10 in the Campus Garden to promote causes relevant to their organizations along with good habits for students. The two-hour event was cosponsored by Fernbrook Farms, Lions Composting and TCNJ on Wheelz. The event consisted of snacks and drinks, pumpkin painting and free plants for students, and the cosponsors set up their own tables to promote their organizations.

Colleges Against Cancer’s Relay for Life raises awareness, over $6,000 for American Cancer Society

Colleges Against Cancer’s (CAC) annual Relay for Life event took place in the Recreation Center on Oct. 23 from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. Co-sponsored by Alpha Epsilon Pi, Kappa Delta Rho and Sigma Kappa, this entertaining and emotional event raised $6,666.64 for the American Cancer Society and made a hopeful impact on the lives of those affected by cancer.

Center for Student Success launches new Advising Bar to help struggling students

The College’s Center for Student Success (CSS) held a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Oct. 27 to reveal the Advising Bar, which is a supplemental advising program to the tutoring and other support offered by CSS. With one snip of her golden scissors, President Foster unveiled the space located in the lobby of Roscoe West Hall where struggling students can be helped within minutes with tutoring, workshops and walk-in questions facilitated by trained students.

Dancing with the Greeks: A night to remember raising funds for Operation Holiday Child

On Oct. 29, the College’s Inter-Greek Council (IGC) hosted a fundraiser called “Dancing with the Greeks.” The event was an early fundraising event for Operation Holiday Child, which is a yearly effort by IGC around the holiday season to raise funds and collect toy donations for children in need in surrounding areas such as Ewing, Trenton, Hamilton and several other towns.

Catalytic converter theft ring strikes the College area

A catalytic converter was stolen from a student’s vehicle in the south parking lot of Campus Town sometime between Oct. 6 and 8. Students were notified of the crime via an email sent by Timothy Grant, the chief of police at the College, on Oct. 9 and were urged to report any suspicious activity or further knowledge of the crime.
